What is a Guide Cane?

A guide cane otherwise known as the blind cane is a marvelous invention that guides blinds and visually impaired and helps to keep their independence when they are walking. So you might be wondering ‘what eventually the guide cane is?’, we will discuss this problem below…

The standard length of the guide cane is the height of the cane from the ground to the user’s heart plus one fist. Due to the standard, the length of each blind cane for a different person is different, so if someone wants to reach the standard, the blind cane will need to be customized. To decline the cost of the guide cane and approach the character of affordable, most blind canes are built in the ordinary form.
The guide cane is made of lightweight materials such as aluminum alloy, graphite, and carbon fiber, with a diameter of about 2cm, and can be divided into fixed and foldable types. Its color is white and red except the robber handle and bottom tip are black.

When the visually impaired moves with a guide cane, the cane has three functions: detection, identification, and protection. The distance that the cane extends forward is used to detect the road conditions. When identify ground changes or dangerous conditions, the visually impaired can therefore have enough time to react to protect themselves.

Only holding a guide cane is not able to effectively assist the visually impaired to move steadily, it needs the user to accept the mobility orientation training. After training, the guide cane will perform its intended function of support and assistance.
